Who We Are
Thank you for visiting The Folded Leaf!
We are a locally owned bookshop operating in Northern Michigan! We sell audio and physical books through our online platform and in-store, and host book clubs and small events. All of our large events have a fundraising element for a local non-profit.
Rachel Zemanek, Owner
Rachel was born in Northern Michigan but has lived in NY, PA, CA, CO, and NC. Her love of NoMi called her home in 2024. She loves reading, napping, hiking, horseback riding, her cats, Frank & Fawn, and her pup, Finn.
TFL’s Story
One of my earliest memories is my dad reading me The Hobbit, using different character voices. He would read to me and then sing Mr. Rogers "Won't You Be My Neighbor" until my eyes drooped and I fell asleep.
We all have a story and reasons for being who we are. That is just a glimmer of my origin story. Sharing stories around a bonfire or exchanging books is a love language for me, and I am thrilled to bring that love to my home in Northern Michigan.
Through careful curation of local artists, The Folded Leaf has supported artists who haven't felt confident enough to display their work in larger gallery settings. By highlighting these artists, we can give them a place to belong and thrive.
Outside of the book world, I am a former Paramedic and have a passion for supporting the mental health of first responders. A portion of the proceeds at TFL will be donated to The Northwest Michigan Peer Network, Up North Pride, Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center, and other local non-profits that support mental health.
Words cannot adequately express my gratitude to each and every one of you for your continued support.
All my love,
Rachel
